AfD

AfD stands for “Alternative für Deutschland,” which translates to “Alternative for Germany” in English. It is a right-wing political party in Germany, founded in 2013. The AfD emerged primarily as a response to the Eurozone crisis and is known for its critical stance on the European Union, advocating for a reduction of German contributions to the EU budget and opposing further integration of EU member states. Over time, the party has shifted its focus to include strong opposition to immigration and Islam, positioning itself against multiculturalism and advocating for stricter immigration policies. The AfD has gained attention for its populist and nationalist rhetoric, appealing to voters discontent with traditional political parties and expressing concerns over national identity. It has experienced fluctuating levels of electoral success, notably entering the Bundestag (the German federal parliament) in 2017 as a significant political force.
