Ligue 1

Ligue 1 is the top professional football (soccer) league in France. It is the primary division of the French football league system and is contested by 20 teams. Established in 1933, Ligue 1 operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Ligue 2, the second division.

The league is conducted under the organization of the LFP (Ligue de Football Professionnel) and is renowned for its competitive nature and the high level of talent among its players and clubs. Teams in Ligue 1 play against each other in a round-robin format, where each club faces the others twice—once at home and once away. Points are awarded for wins and draws, determining the standings in the league table.

The club with the highest points at the end of the season is crowned the champion, while the lowest-ranked teams face relegation to Ligue 2. Ligue 1 has produced many prominent clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, Olympique de Marseille, and AS Monaco, and has been influential in European football. The league is known for its emphasis on youth development and has contributed significantly to the international football scene by producing top talent and competitive teams.
